Last Session of 2017: Acting Headshots for Sean Fronek

Actor Sean Fronek was my last headshot session of the year. Atlanta Acting Headshots are some of my favorite work.

Atlanta continues to become an important location for the film industry. As I work with actors I find out more and more about what's going on in Atlanta from their perspective. Most often extras are cast out of Atlanta. If you're looking for extra work it's plentiful. Yet increasingly I hear of featured extra roles and reoccuring roles "Nosy Nextdoor Neighbor" with speaking parts being cast as well. As well, the Atlanta theater scene continues to grow. Sean Fronek wanted to get some shots for both theater and film. These are two of my favorites. Acting headshots are fun for me and it gives me a chance to direct different expressions but it's just fun to work with actors who invariably are able to connect with the viewer in a way non actors seldom can.

First Professional Headshot Session of 2018

First business headshot session of 2018 with Frank Caporusso. Frank needed some new professional headshots for his businesses website and LinkedIn.

Frank Caporusso called me for a same day headshot session. Great session less than an hour with plenty of takes to choose from. Here's a couple of our favorites.

Key Bank Real Estate - Professional Headshots

Key Bank Real Estate is part of the financial in the Atlanta business community. For the finance industry, professional headshots, are so important. It may often be the first impression.

I enjoyed working with Key Bank Real Estate. So much of my headshot photography is servicing the finance industry. My contact was Linda Flewellen who was so kind to seeing to all the details. It's very rare that I'm able to show up and set up without shoving the conference desk and chairs to the side. I was given a dedicated room that had been prepared for us in the Northpark Building in Dunwoody. It was a great session, not rushed, working with folks, evaluating takes on the laptop, trying another set. I was able to shoot people from each side and evaluate which was their best side. I enjoy the chance to get it right! I think I got close to getting it right on these.

Branding Session for Cassandra Worthy

Cassandra Worthy is a writer and speaker seeking to encourage young women in their efforts to study and work in the STEM discipline and fields. We used her home and the surrounding area of Atlanta known as Cabbagetown, as well as my studio for her photography.

Cassandra Worthy is working on becoming a speaker to encourage young women in their efforts to study and work in the STEM discipline and fields. We started out the branding session for her photography by shooting in Cabbagetown in Atlanta. We also took some lifestyle shots in her home. Then we finished up by shooting in my studio. I think the session was a great success for us both. Here's what Cassandra said about our work together:

Steve was fantastic. He went above and beyond what was originally requested regarding locations and final edits. He also worked extremely hard for each shot and was flexible and willing to work with my requests during the shoot. We were able to complete all locations, review raw footage, and delivery final edits in a matter of days, exceeding my expectation. Exceptional quality and responsiveness. I am extremely pleased with the end result!

Headshots & Pictures for Social Media

Why not look your best? Especially if you're an entrepenuer. The social media shoots are fun and loose. We walk around my neighborhood in the morning, we go to a park, we do some studio things.

When we're done you have a variety of images. For a few hundred dollars you can populate your social media, LinkedIn, and even have images for brochures and such for your business.

"Headshots for social media". Sometimes that means LinkedIn or Facebook. Other times it means pictures for dating sites. Or it can be pictures for all of it.

In a way, it all comes down to "personal branding".

I love the democratization of photography these days. I love that we all have a camera in our pocket now. The one downside of that is that a lot of us no longer avail ourselves of professional photography. Of course that seems self serving. But I believe in what I do. Everytime I point a camera at someone I'm looking to portray them in the best light possible.

A portrait session with the aim of coming up with some great shots that you can put on social media is a great investment. With Fall approaching why not give me a call and we'll find a spot with some nice fall foliage?

Expression: The Perfect Headshot

What makes a great headshot? Expression!

Warmth, confidence, and approachability. All my favorite headshots have those 3 elements to them.
What should not be on your face is the things that amount to a pre-occupation with something other than your connecting with the viewer. In all my favorite portraits there's not the slightest hint of doubt in the gaze of the subject. What we often refer to as being hesitant or self concious.
So why not practice?

So why not practice?

I love Peter Hurley's work. His "squinch" video went viral on YouTube. The squinch is that slight pressure from your lower eye lids that narrows your eyes. I would go even a step further in coaching that.

You don't hear directors say, "I want you to widen your eyes so we can see as much white as possible, now raise your eye brows... ok now drop your jaw and let it go slack..." Rather, they say, "Look dumbfounded".

The "squinch" represents confidence and determination. So I wouldn't practice the "squinch" without thinking of confidence, warmth, determination, and the human connection. You have to own it, and it has to translate into a flattering expression. Most of all it has to translate to the viewer as warmth, confidence, and approachability.

You want a great headshot? Practice your expression. Stand in front of a mirror and practice looking yourself in the eye. Get comfortable with who you are. Try squinching but more importantly, try feeling confident and determined. Even more important, try transmitting warmth, confidence, and a sense that you'd love it if someone spoke to you. Imagine you're listening to someone you respect and agree with. Shooting day will go so much easier for you.

CEO Headshots Tim Faber

Tim Faber is a CEO who specializes in staffing management solutions. The importance of professional headshots at any stage of your career is keeping up with what you're trying to project. With Tim I focused on warmth and confidence with an air of leadership. Tall order for a headshot but I think we accomplished our goals.

ERAS Application Photos for Jon and Payton

The medical residency application process is very competitive. Headshots come into play because each resident has to upload their photo into ERAS application system. Careful attention to the specifications and size limits must be paid to ensure the headshots comply yet are the highest resolution possible.

During July and August I get calls from doctors or soon to be doctors. Depends on where and how they're educated if they're called doctors yet. Never the less they are smart young folks who are fun to work with. The medical residency application process is very competitive. Headshots come into play because each resident has to upload their photo into ERAS application system. Careful attention to the specifications and size limits must be paid to ensure the headshots comply yet are the highest resolution possible. My understanding is that it can be a stressful time for the medical student. While they do have some input they can land almost anywhere in the country in this highly competitive process.

Legare, Attwood, and Wolfe were looking to update thier headshots to something more contemporary that wasn't a plain gray background. They are located in the city of Decatur. Easy walking distance to the old Decatur City Courthouse. On set with me that day were make-up and hair artists extraordinaires Faith Brooks and David Hamblen who also did onset grooming. It's always going to be a great day with David and Faith on set!
